Rose Tipped Cigarettes – 1959

Regardless of what your opnion of smoking is in the past the industry in the UK employed many people who hand produced cigarettes. This fabulous reel of footage from pathe is about Rose Petal tipped cigarettes for ladies with sensitive lips!

Nancy Silverman is seen expertly hand rolling cigarettes from a heap of tobacco in front of her, and pushing them through a tube. She picks one up to trim the ends with scissors. Elizabeth Millen takes a rose from a vase and pulls off the petals. She sorts them and uses a special cutter to cut rose petal strips. She smooths one out and then wraps it around the gold tipped cigarette. She adds it to the completed row of rose petal tipped cigarettes.
